This is both a feminist statement and a homage to individualism. A beautiful woman holds a shawl in her strong peasant’s hand that is symbolically linked to both earth and the sky above. She has confidently turned her back on both organised religion and a totalitarian state represented by the specific Russian architecture in the background. The work is multimedia: gouache, gold leaf, crayon and dyed silk.
